Why Am I Proud to be a Rotarian?

Home

On Aug. 28, we honored our departed members by dedicating trees in their honor at Pottery Pond. Familes, friends, and club members planted two new trees and placed plaques on all the trees commemorating the departed. Those remembered include Gordy Haugen, Dennis Betcher, Lyle Warrington, Betty Jo Finholm, and Nancy Green.

On Aug. 24 we held our annual steak fry at the Izaak Walton clubhouse to celebrate our club's many efforts, especially the recent River City Days Parade and Golf Classic.

On Aug. 19 we held our annual kids' fishing contest. More than 40 kids caught more than 400 fish as they tried to catch "the big one". Winners were:

Isaac Nelson (age 10) - biggest fish
Logan Sammon (age 10) - first fish
Allexis Bohmbach (age 6) and Adam Dilks (age 5) - tie
Most fish - Reese Nystuen (age 6)

Dan Spence from the Lake City DNR office was on hand to help kids with their bait and hooks and to talk about the pond and the kinds of fish stocked in it.

Even our new Youth Exchange Student Gosia, from Poland, caught a fish.

Mandy Lohmann
Red Wing Rotary Club President
2010-2011

Thank-you for visiting the Red Wing Rotary Club's Website! I've just started my year off as the club's president for the 2010-2011 term and am looking forward to an exciting year!

Our club keeps busy with its weekly noon meetings, off-site visits and the occasional party or picnic.  When we are not socializing with each other, we keep busy throughout the community, whether it's hosting a kids' fishing contest at the Pottery Pond, organizing the River City Days Parade or working with students at the local high school STRIVE program, we're usually up to something!  Oh, and if you need to buy your special someone a dozen roses, we have our annual Rose Day Sale fundraiser in October.

Rotarians are not only busy right here in Red Wing, but we are an organization that is busy throughout the World!  My first experience with Rotary was not local at all, as I was a part of a Group Study Exchange to South Eastern Africa, where I spent a month in Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.  While there, I stayed with Rotarian's and learned about my profession in that area, their customs, and their way of life.  It was the best experience of my life.  Not long after returning, I joined our local Rotary Club, and ten years later, I'm now the president of our club!

Rotary is an amazing organization full of great people!  If you'd like to find out more about Rotary or come and visit us for lunch, we'd love to have you!

Thanks again for visiting!
